Responsibilities
Introduction:
At AstraZeneca we are dedicated to redefining the future of healthcare by unlocking the power of what science can do for people, society and the planet. Working here means being bold, thinking big and working together to use the potential of science to address the unmet needs of patients around the world.
To deliver our medicines to patients we need to develop evidence for health technology assessment (HTA) bodies and payers around the world. This requires expertise in HTA science where we can translate data into evidence to support decision-making across the lifecycle of our medicines. In Europe, the start of the Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA) will require innovative solutions in demonstrating our comparative effectiveness through direct and indirect analyses, and consideration of how we pull through such evidence into economic value at the national level.
With our expanding oncology portfolio and increasing use of HTA around the globe, we are looking for a passionate and talented individual with experience and pragmatic expertise in health economic modelling to join our global oncology HTA and Modelling Science (HMS) team to support HTA strategy and submission work. Working collaboratively with our cross functional partners, you’ll contribute your expertise to develop, evaluate, and communicate patient and economic value, helping to secure patient access to our innovative medicines.
What we offer:
Impact: A role where your work directly influences HTA outcomes and patient access.
Development: A learning culture including technical, business acumen and leadership, with opportunities to shape methods and be recognized internally and externally for your expertise.
Inclusivity: An inclusive, supportive and respectful team culture, based in a new, state of the art office in the vibrant city of Barcelona.
Typical Accountabilities:
- Contribute to development of strategic approach and delivery of health economic (HE) models for HTA submissions across the globe. This may include developing model specification documents, creating Excel (and/or R-based) models, report writing, training and/or dissemination, as well as supporting marketing teams in their HTA interactions.
- Act as a primary point of contact for guidance, advice, and support on HE deliverables
- Application of novel modelling methodologies, for example, surrogacy methods, survival and regression analyses.
- Beyond HTA and market access, identify and apply HTA methods to support wider cross functional decision-making and goals (e.g. medical and commercial)
- Provide leadership, input and support for the development of HMS tools, guidance documents, internal initiatives, as well as external publications
- Contribute to quality assurance of the team’s work, projects led by external vendors, global standards, best practice, and metrics
- Management of modelling projects undertaken by external vendors
- Build partnerships and working relationships with cross-functional partners
We welcome candidates who may not meet every listed criterion, provided you bring the core skills and relevant experience for this role. If you’re motivated by improving patient access and have relevant skills, we encourage you to apply.
Key Skills/Experience:
- Bachelors’ or post-graduate degree in economics, health economics, statistics/biostatistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative degree with a statistical component
- Prior experience (minimum 5 years) working in consultancy or industry in applying modelling expertise to support HTA submissions
- Expert knowledge and experience in economic modelling and budget impact analysis, including hands-on model development in Excel
- Understanding and application of statistical principles, methods, and procedures in the HTA setting, including the use of evidence synthesis, clinical trial analysis or analysis of other large datasets to support model development.
- Experience in contributing to HTA submissions and responding to questions in at least one HTA market
- Proven oral and written skills in communication of methods, results and data interpretation to different audiences
- Strong interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds
- Understanding of how HTA science can impact on wider market access and value communication
- Ability to work both independently and as a team, and to take full accountability over projects
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Knowledge and experience across different oncology tumour types or disease stage settings
- Direct hands-on experience in conducting indirect treatment comparisons and performing statistical analyses of clinical trial data for HTA, including but not limited to, patient reported outcomes and survival analyses.
- Experience with R, SAS or similar statistical software packages
- Knowledge of the changing HTA methods requirements globally and how to approach these.
- Experience working with generative artificial intelligence (genAI) to support the development of health economic models and HTA deliverables
Key Stakeholders:
- HTA and Modelling Science colleagues
- Oncology Biometrics (statistics and programming)
- Our wider Oncology Market Access and Pricing (OMAP) community, including payer evidence team
- Marketing company / local affiliate HTA/HEOR related teams
